Instructions for use
Two different combi-packs are available, each containing:
- 1 powder vial of artesunate 120 mg + 1 ampoule with 6 ml sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) 0.84% (8.4mg/ml) and arginine2% (20 mg/ml) for reconstitution (DINJARTS1V1)
- 1 powder vial of artesunate 60 mg + 1 ampoule with 3 ml of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) 0.84% (8.4mg/ml) and arginine2% (20 mg/ml) for reconstitution (DINJARTS6V3)
This artesunate-arginine formulation eliminates the need to reconstitute and then dilute the powder separately. It simplifies and accelerates preparation and administration, reducing the risk of errors.
For instructions on reconstitution and administration, refer to Injectable Artesunate FOR SEVERE MALARIA ONLY (see related articles).
Must be given as slow IV or IM injection.
Remark: Missions should first use remaining stocks of artesunate without arginine before ordering the formulation with arginine. Having both formulations simultaneously at field level is discouraged.
Precautions for Use
Never administer by IV infusion.
Do not reconstitute the artesunate powder with water for injection; use only the diluent provided in the ampoule.
Storage
- Below 25ºC - Protect from sunlight
- Do not refrigerate or freeze.
- After reconstitution, use the solution immediately.
