Instructions for use
Must be given by oral or vaginal route:
- If oral administration is not possible (e.g., due to vomiting or impaired consciousness), administer by vaginal route.
- Caution! the oral tablet (DORAMISP25T) may be administered orally or vaginally. On the contrary, the vaginal tablet (DEXTMISP25TV) must be administered vaginally only!
- For vaginal administration:
- to be administered by a healthcare professional (doctor or midwife)
- wash hands thoroughly
- remove the tablet from the blister
- with the patient laying down on a gynaecological examination table, insert the tablet into the posterior vaginal fornix.
Misoprostol 200 µg can be used as an alternative in case of supply issue with the 25 µg dosage. Dissolve 1 tablet of misoprostol 200 µg in 200 ml water, then administer 25 ml of the dissolved solution (25 ml = 25 µg).
Precautions for Use
- Do not administer in women with a history of caesarean section.
- Administer with caution in cases of grand multiparity or uterine overdistention due to the risk of uterine rupture.
- Monitor uterine contractions (intensity and frequency), and foetal heart rate, after administration of misoprostol.
- Do not administer misoprostol simultaneously with oxytocin.
- Do not use misoprostol in cases of ectopic or molar pregnancy.
