CLOGS, operating theatre

Definition

Protection shoes intended for people working in wards where the infectious risk is high (operating theatre, delivery room).

Used to limit the risk of infection related to splashes of infectious substances on the feet and to avoid soiling the floor with shoes worn outside.

Specifications

Classification according to P​PE Regulation (EU) 2016/425: Category I.

Quality standards

  • ISO 20347, 2021, edition 3, Personal protective equipment — Occupational footwear

  • ISO 13287, 2019, edition 3, Personal protective equipment — Footwear — Test method for slip resistance

Technical specifications

  • Working shoe type OB (according ISO 20347)
  • Slip resistance: SRA (slip resistance on a ceramic tile floor with lauryl sulphate) or SRC (also slip resistance on a steel surface with glycerol)
  • One-piece moulded
  • Waterrepellent, antistatic polyurethane, with rapid drying
  • Perforations on lateral part possible but not on top
  • Light, flexible, stable, strong, indeformable, silent
  • Fits good at the foot, with or without back strap
  • Different sizes available (sizes are slightly different per manufacturer, some use double sizing)
  • Washable at high temperature
  • Resistant to chlorine disinfection.
  • Non sterile, reusable

Dimensions

There is no single, universally enforced, and utilized standard for shoe sizes, as sizing varies by brand, country, and shoe type.

The sizing depends on the manufacturer: some use a single size, some use a range (2 sizes)

As we want to keep a reasonable range of codes/sizes we selected the option of range. Example:

ELINCLOG39- CLOGS, operating theatre, polyuretane, washable, pair 38-39: Can be size 38, size 39, size 38-39, size 39-40

If we would be very precise we would have to create 4 different codes. This is for sure not efficient in stock management.

Maintenance

Washing

  • Immerse the shoes in the tub with the detergent solution
  • Clean with soap and water, brushing them outside and inside
  • Rinse

Disinfection

  • Prepare a tub with 0.1% chlorine solution
  • Immerse the shoes for 5 minutes
  • Rinse well in and outside with running water
  • Drying - Allow to dry on a draining rack

Transport for operating room clogs:

  • Collect the dry clogs in the clean transport tub, close the tub with its lid.
  • The closed tub is transported to the operating room along the specified route in the health care facility
