Therapeutic Action

Antimalarial

Indications

Radical cure (prevention of relapses) in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium vivax or P. ovale malaria.

In low-transmission areas, reduction of the transmission in patients with P. Falciparum infection, in association with an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ATC).

Used as a gametocide for Plasmodium falciparum in the malaria elimination phase.

Instructions for use

Qualitative and semi-quantitative test (near-patient) to determine the G6PD status of patients should be available to guide the administration of primaquine.

The 2.5mg, dispersible tablet is intended for paediatric use.

Precautions for Use

Contraindicated:

  • during pregnancy
  • in women breastfeeding infants aged < 1 month
  • in infants aged < 1 month
  • in people with G6PD deficiency
